Letter #38: To Shri Gurunath V. Kulkarni, Mumbai.

Extract from the letter written by Shree Maharaj to To Shri Gurunath V. Kulkarni, Mumbai., published in Third edition of ‘Tuchi Baap Dhani’

C hi. Gurunath, esq. and Chi. Mangesh V. Kulkarni, esq. Best of the Blessings of Shree Swami Krupa.

Recd your letter dated 18/4/66 containing grievous message. Felt sorry. Came to know about grief that you lost your mother on 16/4/66 in the afternoon at 4.15 pm. Only that she died as Sobhagyawati is a good thing. After all, this is Mrituloka. Who is permanent and to what extent in this Mrituloka? All the fruits borne by a tree do not last till end. Out of them some fall prematurely and the rest after they mature. In all no fruit remains on the tree for a long time is the truth. One who exists in body each one has to leave Mrituloka leaving the body. (It’s like) compartment of a train in which different people board at different stations. Different people alight. None grieves for the people who alight at different stations. Next when their station comes they also get down. Who and what is permanent in this Mrituloka. Instead of going behind what is purely temporary, only thoughtfully knowing that the Atman in the heart of all living beings is permanent, keep the mind cool and take care of your father. Control your grief thoughtfully and discharge your duties peacefully.

Both of you brothers do Japa of Shree Swami Samartha one Mala everyday for three months for your mother. Purpose of this is that her soul should get peace. Hereafter keep in your mind that father is like God (Pitru Dewo Bhava) and (both of you) behave in a way that your father will not have grief.

After the period of condolence is over and final rites are performed both of you should worship the photo of Shree Swami Samartha as much is possible with concentration. Do Japa of his nama as much is possible. Take his Darshan. Read his biography. Devote yourselves totally to him with body, mind and wealth. Then he will take care of you.

Read out this letter to your father. Consult some Shastri whether Tripad star was there (at the time of her death) and if he tells to perform ‘Shanti’ you may do it if necessary and if possible. Blessings to all.

With Blessings,

Yours,

V. G. Joshi
