Objective

To provide locally, both basic as well as state of the art health services for poor and needy people of the Konkan area at a very affordable price. 

Location

On the Mumbai - Goa highway, 16 km. From Chiplun towards Ratnagiri and 80 km. from Ratnagiri towards Mumbai. Area covered Ratnagiri , Sindhudurg and Raigad Districts of Maharashtra.

Title and Ownership

The hospital belongs to Shree Vitthalrao Joshi Charities Trust, Registered under No: E-6678 (Mumbai) under the Public Trust Act. The tenure of the land is free hold without any encumbrances.

Management 

          Trust and hospital is managed by trustees.

Inaugurated On

         1st February 1999 

Bed Capacity

50 General Beds; 8 Private Rooms; 10 bedded ICU; 4 bedded surgical ICU; 8 bedded NICU(Neonatal Intensive Care Unit i.e. ICU for new borns) for a total of 80 beds.

MAIN FEATURES

1.   Multi-Unit Referral Centre with Basic as well as Ultra Modern Facilities. All Consultants    are full time and are not allowed private practice.

2.   Emergency Services are available for 24 hours. Hospital provides residential quarters to

      all Consultants, Nurses and other staff, so it enables them to attend the patient for 24 hour

      a day whenever needed.

3.     Out Patient Departments 1) Medicine 2) Surgery 3) Orthopaedic 4) Paediatric 5) Dental 

       6)Obstetrics & Gynaecology 7) Anaesthesia 8)E.N.T. 9) Ophthalmology.

4.     Referral Diagnostic Centre : The hospital is equipped with CT scanner, Ultrasound Machine, 2D Echo, Automated Cell Counter, Biochemical auto analyser, Elisa machines, Scopes (Urethroscope, Endoscope, Laproscope)  and thus serves as a major local referral centre for various  diagnostic tests for patients of this area.

5.     Medical facilities : Casualty Department, Male Ward, Paediatric Ward, Female Ward, Private Rooms, I.C.U., N.I.C.U., Surgical I.C.U., Dialysis unit, Radiology Department, Pathology Department.

6.     Trauma centre : The hospital is located on the busy Mumbai- Goa Highway and caters to many motor vehicle accidents. The trauma team consists of 2 General Surgeons, 2 Orthopaedic Surgeons, 2 Anaesthesiologists, 2 Medical Officers, Trained intensive trauma unit nurses, which is mobilised at a very short notice.

7.     Preventive Medicine Services : Fully functional preventive medicine department in hospital which also caters to the  surrounding area.

Activities  of  Community Health  Department

1.     Immunisation O.P.D.-once a week.

2.     Hepatitis B vaccination camps in the surrounding villages.

3.     School Health Programme.

4.     Canteen Hygiene Programme.

5.     Xerophthalmia Control Programme

6.     Adolescent Girls Programme.

7.     Celebration of Important Health Events - W.H.O day, World TB day, Leprosy

      day.

8.     Training of Community Health Volunteers.

9.     Working in co-ordination with Government Projects.

10. Epidemiological studies in the nearby Community.

11. Appointment of Voluntary Health workers in villages.

12. Camps for control of malnutrition.

13. Ante-natal care in nearby villages.

14. Cancer detection camps.

15. Health education to village women.

16. Also 6 villages in nearby area have been adopted to provide once a week general OPD services at their door steps.

In addition, specialty camps are being conducted on monthly or quarterly basis in the hospital for Cancer, Urology, Cardiology, Plastic Surgery and Neurology.
